Injury forces change in AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament

A change has been made in the inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament due to an injury.

Announced during Wednesday’s Fright Night edition of AEW Dynamite, Penelope Ford revealed she suffered a torn UCL in her right arm last week and she is out indefinitely.

Tony Schiavone then asked her partner Megan Bayne what her plan was to which she challenged any woman that thought she was bad enough to join her. Death Riders member Marina Shafir then walked into the frame and offered her services, leading to Jon Moxley walking in the shot to give his approval.

Shafir and Bayne then fist bumped to seal the deal. The two will face TayJay (Anna Jay & Tay Melo) in a first round bout in a date yet to be announced.

Ford hurt her arm on a moonsault in a four-way that took place on last Saturday’s Collision, taped last Wednesday.

Earlier in the night, the Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart & Skye Blue) advanced with a win over Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata thanks to Thekla’s interference.

AEW Women’s World Tag Team title tournament bracket:

Left side:

  • Julia Hart & Skye Blue defeated Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata to advance
  • Mercedes Mone & Athena vs. Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron (Wed., November 5)

Right side:

  • Anna Jay & Tay Melo vs. Penelope Ford & Megan Bayne (Date TBA)
