Cody Rhodes reportedly a free agent, working on new AEW deal

AEW founding member, executive vice president and current TNT Champion Cody Rhodes is reportedly a free agent, but is working on a new deal to remain with the company.

Fightful first reported the news Monday. Our website has yet to hear back from either AEW or Rhodes to confirm.

According to the report, Rhodes’ deal expired at the end of 2021 and he has been working without a deal ever since.

He is set to return this Wednesday on Dynamite, his first appearance since not being “medically cleared” to defend the title against Sammy Guevara at the first Battle of the Belts on January 8th.

As Fightful noted in their report, Rhodes told Sports Illustrated recently that he felt his future was with AEW and that, “I can’t see myself anywhere else and I’m very optimistic about what the future holds.”

Several other AEW talents that were under contracts from the onset of the company or shortly thereafter, like the Young Bucks, Scorpio Sky and Tony Schiavone, have had their two-year extensions picked up or new extensions signed altogether.
