Why Swerve Strickland has been off AEW TV recently

Swerve Strickland | AEW

Swerve Strickland has been noticeably absent from AEW TV since losing his number one contendership to Kenny Omega in last month’s rematch, and was not part of this past weekend’s Dynasty.

Fightful Select has reported the reason which appears to be a positive one for the former AEW World Champion.

The outlet stated Strickland “recently filmed promotional materials for Warner Bros. Discovery” but there are no specifics as to what that entails. Strickland was at a signing this past Sunday.

The 35-year-old was last in action against Omega on the March 25 Dynamite. Omega’s win gave him a title shot against reigning champion MJF this past Sunday which he lost.

With Dynamite emanating from Everett, Washington, Wednesday, it’s very possible Strickland returns as he was born in Tacoma and was a big part of DEFY Wrestling for years along with Darby Allin. Allin will challenge MJF for the title.

Since returning from knee surgery last December, Strickland has been active in AEW with the Omega loss snapping a three-match winning streak.
