Taynara Conti part of AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup, four teams revealed

This story was updated at 2:45 PM Eastern.

On his weekly Saturday Night Special livestream, former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho revealed that Taynara Conti is part of the AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup tournament.

He also said the former NXT roster member teamed with Anna Jay to face former women’s champion Nyla Rose and recently signed Ariane Andrew in a match that has already been taped.

Other than the teams being chosen via random draw, not a lot is known about the eight team tournament set to start Monday on YouTube.

On Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Ivelisse will team with Diamante while Brandi Rhodes will team with Allie, leaving several pairings and names yet to be revealed.

Thus far, Rose, Conti, Andrew, Jay, Rhodes, Allie, Ivelisse and Diamante are the only known names of the field of sixteen women, leaving eight still to go. Brackets are also unknown at this point.

Conti was released as part of the April WWE pandemic cuts. The 25-year-old had previously left NXT in January following a disagreement only to return in mid-February working five house show/dark matches before the pandemic hit. After being out of wrestling for several years following her NXT release, Andrew debuted in a backstage segment on Wednesday where she revealed to Rose that she was her partner.
