Tony Khan going back to ‘ruthless roots’ to make Friday’s AEW Rampage ‘stacked-up show’

AEW head Tony Khan went out of his way during a media appearance today to say that this Friday’s AEW Rampage lineup will be a good one.

Just before he left the air during his Busted Open Radio appearance Wednesday, Khan made a point to say he is “going back to his ruthless roots” when it comes to the lineup for Friday and that it will be “a stacked-up show.”

Against heavy competition last week with several pay-per-views, including the Ring of Honor Supercard of Honor show, Rampage averaged 456,000 viewers which was nearly eight percent up from the previous week’s record-low.

The show will be taped following Wednesday’s Dynamite in Boston, Massachusetts.

Speaking of Dynamite, Khan didn’t announce any new matches for tonight, but did say that Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz will be heard from. They attempted to gain a measure of revenge against the Jericho Appreciation Society last Wednesday, the five-on-three numbers game caught up to them as the JAS left them laying.

Here’s a look at tonight’s show as of now:

  • Owen Hart Foundation Men’s tournament qualifier: Samoa Joe vs. Max Caster
  • Owen Hart Foundation Women’s tournament qualifier: Hikaru Shida vs. Julia Hart
  • Adam Cole vs. Christian Cage
  • Tables match: The Hardys vs. The Butcher & The Blade
  • ROH World Tag Team Championship & AAA Tag Team Championship: FTR vs. Young Bucks
  • Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz appearance
