Trey Miguel’s AEW release: ‘Something happened from way up’

It’s still unclear on the full story behind Trey Miguel’s AEW release, but our Bryan Alvarez had some updates on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, available for free on YouTube or in audio form.

Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed the news around Miguel, who said on Sunday that he is taking some time away from wrestling with a report coming out that he had been released from his AEW contract days after signing it.

“No one’s really saying much. Well, some people are saying certain things, but my understanding is whatever it is, it came from up above. I know there’s a lot of rumors but it had nothing to do with anybody in AEW talent, anything like that, or Tony (Khan). Something happened from way up and he was released,” Alvarez said.

Miguel, Zachary Wentz, Dezmond Xavier and Myron Reed parted ways with TNA when their respective contracts/agreements were up at year’s end, signing with AEW. Wentz, Xavier and Reed appeared on camera during Saturday’s AEW Collision in a backstage segment with fans quickly noting that Miguel was nowhere to be seen.
