There is now an update on the impending neck surgery for AEW star Will Ospreay that is expected to keep him out of action for a lengthy period for time.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the surgery to repair two herniated discs will happen “in a few weeks.”

Following July’s All In, Ospreay revealed the diagnosis on AEW Dynamite and that he was going to do his best to make it to August’s Forbidden Door. He did just that, part of a lights out steel cage match that closed the show in London, England. Ospreay was attacked by the Death Riders afterward and taken out on a stretcher to write him off.

In the run-up to Forbidden Door, Ospreay said he had been dealing with issues for ten months and had previously mentioned loss of feeling in one of his arms. He said that doctors told him the injury couldn’t get any worse going into the Forbidden Door match and everyone was comfortable with him being in there.

A timetable for his return is unknown.
