Women’s World title match official for AEW All In
After several failed attempts, Willow Nightingale can call herself AEW Women’s World Champion and already has her first challenger.
Nightingale won the title at Sunday’s AEW Redemption, pinning Thekla on a backslide after the now-former champion missed a stomp after hitting a spear.
That now puts Nightingale and the title in the crosshairs of Mercedes Mone who was in attendance Sunday and stared the new champion down after the match from a luxury box.
Nightingale had to fight off Skye Blue during the match after Blue interfered by putting Thekla’s foot on the rope following a Nightingale power bomb. She then took Blue out on the outside of the ring with a power bomb.
Nightingale becomes the first-ever women’s Grand Slam Champion in AEW history, having held the TBS and Tag Team titles previously. The loss ends Thekla’s first title run at 166 days and seven successful title defenses before Sunday.
It will be the fourth-ever meeting between Mone and Nightingale. Nightingale is 2-1, but Nightingale ended Mone’s record-long TBS title run on this past December’s New Year’s Smash. Mone is still looking for her first AEW Women’s World title and this will be her second chance after failing to defeat then-champion Toni Storm at last year’s All In.
