Saturday News Update



  • After suffering a broken neck on last night’s SmackDown, Big E has received a huge outpouring of support from people throughout pro wrestling. Big E posted an update today saying that he won’t need surgery for the injury.
  • Drew McIntyre tweeted about spending time with Big E in the hospital: “I spent some time with @WWEBigE in the hospital last night and even in that situation you couldn't take the smile off his face. He really is remarkable. Love ya brother, can't wait to hear the reaction when you return.”
  • Xavier Woods tweeted last night: “Went to see E and he’s in good spirits. Hell of a guy and beyond proud to call him my brother.”
  • Becky Lynch wrote: “One of the best humans in the world. I’m hoping you’ve been keeping it a secret that you have wolverine-esque healing powers. Thinking of you. Love you E.”
  • Diamond Dallas Page offered to help Big E with his recovery: “After last nights #SMACKDOWN my heart goes out to my brother @wwebige If you need me brother I got you, after @nxtciampa & @ivar_wwe got done with their broken neck rehab they both came to my crib and stayed a few days with me to #DDPY Rebuild @austincreedwins has my # don’t hesitate to reach out my friend! @wwe #wwe YOU got THIS! DDP”
  • Last night’s SmackDown averaged 2.133 million viewers in the fast national ratings, down slightly from the 2.14 million viewers the show drew in the fast nationals last week. The rating in the 18-49 demo was a 0.5.
  • During an interview on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast, Hulk Hogan said he’ll never be able to have one last match: “No, no, no, no, no. In the last 10 years, I've had 23 surgeries, 10 back surgeries, both hips, both knees -- forget it.”
  • Lita appeared on the latest edition of WWE After the Bell. When asked who she sees as a star, Lita had praise for Doudrop, Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley: “I got to be more backstage at Raw working with Becky leading up to it. I will say that three women that I am like, ‘Oh, we are just getting started seeing where these women can go’ are Doudrop, Liv Morgan, and Rhea Ripley. I think all three of those women have had these little moments and these little opportunities, but we’re just scratching the surface there on what they could do to be players and viable stars headlining cards in years to come.”
  • Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs, Drew McIntyre, and Natalya & Shayna Baszler were interviewed on Talking Smack this week.
  • Natalya & Baszler said on Talking Smack that they want to be added to the Women's Tag Team title match at WrestleMania 38.
  • WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair & Dana Brooke from Battleground 2016 and Rey Mysterio vs. Batista from the January 8, 2010 episode of SmackDown.

  • Josh Barnett announced that JR Kratos will be Timothy Thatcher’s opponent at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 8 on Thursday, March 31: “Two wrestlers who came up together. Trained together. Bled and sweat together are meeting in the ring at Josh Barnett's: Bloodsport 8. Each man knows each other's strengths...and how to exploit their weaknesses. Timothy Thatcher v. JR Kratos”
  • Zeda Zhang vs. Marina Shafir is also set for Bloodsport.
  • Jimmy Wang Yang will be an entrant in the Clusterf*ck battle royal at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 6 part two.
  • Rey Fenix, who dislocated his arm during a match on AEW Dynamite in January, wasn’t able to wrestle at last night’s House of Glory show despite being advertised. Arez instead replaced Fenix and teamed with Penta El Zero Miedo against The Briscoes in a match where both the House of Glory and ROH Tag Team titles were on the line. The Briscoes defeated Penta & Arez to win the House of Glory titles.
  • ESPN interviewed Paige VanZant about signing with AEW.
  • Lee Moriarty was the guest on this week’s episode of AEW Unrestricted.
  • RJ City is hosting a new series titled “Hey! (EW)” on AEW’s YouTube channel. It will premiere this Sunday.
