Alberto El Patron returning to Lucha Libre AAA

The former Alberto Del Rio is set to take part in two tournaments.

Alberto El Patron is making his return to Lucha Libre AAA.

At a press conference regarding the promotion's 2023 schedule on Tuesday, AAA revealed that the former Alberto Del Rio will be returning to the company to take part in two tournaments: the Lucha Libre World Cup and Guerra de Rivalidades.

El Patron will be teaming with El Hijo del Vikingo & Psycho Clown in the Lucha Libre World Cup. The tournament is being held on March 19 and will feature seven other teams that have yet to be announced. There will also be a women's Lucha Libre World Cup taking place alongside the men's tournament.

El Patron is listed as representing Nacion Lucha Libre on AAA's Lucha Libre World Cup graphic.

El Patron & Pentagon Jr. are partnered together in Guerra de Rivalidades. That tournament also includes Psycho Clown & Sam Adonis, Rush & Pagano, and Blue Demon Jr. & DMT Azul. The tournament will play out over three Triplemania events that are taking place in 2023.

The Triplemania shows are being held in Monterrey on April 16, Tijuana on June 17, and Mexico City on August 12. The first round of the tournament will happen at the Monterrey event, then the losing teams will advance to the next round in Tijuana. The teammates that lose in Tijuana will then face off against each other in Mexico City in a singles match where their mask or hair will be on the line.

This will be El Patron's first time wrestling for AAA since 2015. He posted a tweet today about returning home to AAA and thanked AAA management.

El Patron (real name Jose Rodriguez Chucuan) was indicted on one count of aggravated kidnapping and four counts of sexual assault in October 2020 after being arrested in Bexar County, Texas in May of that year. The case was dismissed in 2021 when a witness didn't appear in court.
