During the latest July 3, 2026 CMLL Viernes Espectacular event, Volador Jr. defeated Flip Gordon to crown himself the new CMLL World Historic Middleweight Champion.

The CMLL World Historic Middleweight Championship was introduced in 2010 and so far has had nine different championship reigns. Flip Gordon had held the title for 595 days on November 15, 2024. Now, almost two years later, Volador Jr. finally defeated Gordon to win the title. The finish of the match saw a second rope springboard Canadian Destroyer on Gordon to end his long title reign.

With the victory on July 3, 2026, Volador Jr. has become the first person with two CMLL World Historic Middleweight title reigns.

Throughout his almost 600-day title reign, Flip Gordon successfully defended the title four times, having won the title in 2024. Before losing their latest bout, Flip Gordon had previously defended the title against Volador Jr. on multiple occasions.
