— We just finished recording today’s show with Garrett Gonzales. We talked about Forbidden Door live, in depth talks about details regarding the sale of WWE and who really was head booker, Stephanie McMahon’s leaving the WWE executive branch, the DOJ investigation of Vince McMahon, The lead story in the current issue, Sami Zayn’s title win, Will Ospreay’s out of the ring promos, Lesnar vs Femi, why even the biggest and most careful dread interviews and more the reaction to them, Cody Rhodes, Ray Stevens, Bill Watts, Tony Khan, Nick Khan and Collision.

— The new issue of the Observer is up on the site. It’s one of the bigger issues of the year with the coverage of al the major shows of the past week:

— CMLL officially broke its all-time record, or will in a few hours, with its 64th sold out show of 2026. The record was 63 set over 12 months last year and this year broke in halfway through the year. Now the reality is that it really was broken because there have been recent Guadalajra sellouts not announced as sold out for whatever reason. But this is the 64th sellout the promotion has announced. It’s also the 18th of the year at Arena Mexico. The all-time record is 21 set last year so Imagine it will be broken. Maybe the night I go there.

— Regarding the WWE ID controversy from earlier this week. This is from WWE. They changed the Evolve taping schedule from one day a month to two days in a row so new dates were added and talent had to be pulled off some dates. It was also said that there was a communications issue in that even after this decision was made, a lot of talent wasn’t informed quickly and made bookings even after those dates were known but they themselves didn’t know about them.

— Tonight’s Smackdown was taped on Monday in Atlantic City. Matches tonight are:

  • Charlotte Flair & Tiffany Stratton & Chelsea Green vs. Jade Cargill & Michin & B-Fab
  • Rey Fenix vs. El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA cruiserweight title
  • Brie Bella vs. Lainey Reid
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Jey Uso – winner faces Sami Zayn for WWE title on Raw Monday in Chicago

— This is a quiet weekend with no major shows, SmackDown was already taped, Collision aired last night and no UFC event either.

— Probably the biggest show is Arena Mexico tonight with a rare Atlantis Friday night main event teaming with Mistico & Mascara Dorada vs. Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja & Hechicero, Flip Gordon vs. Volador Jr for the Historic middleweight title, Tessa Blanchard & Garra Negra vs. Persephone & Keyra and Star Jr & Dragon Rojo Jr vs. Barbaro Cavernario & Zandokan Jr.

— Those asking about Mercedes Mone vs. Maya World and the rating. The reality is that it was a different match live. So to apparently rate if fairly I need to watch the TV version. I won’t be in town this weekend so may at some point next week, at least that’s the goal. It’s a very polarizing match as you can see by the front page poll and I’ve had people tell me everything from **3/4 to *****.

— The Mistico & Mascara Dorada ROH tag team title win over Mortos & Sammy Guevara will be up on the ROH web site very soon, I believe tonight.

— Sunday’s Arena Mexico show that was moved to 1 p.m. against the World Cup since Mexico was playing at 6 p.m. Then they moved the Mexico game up several hours,so Arena Mexico now starts at the regular 5 p.m. Central time with Mistico & Star Jr. & Neon vs Avern & Volador Jr. & Zandokan Jr., Mascara Dorada vs. Difunto and Los Gemelo Diablos vs. Gran Guerrer & Stuka Jr.

— Bandido is in the U.K. this weekend and will be facing Leon Cage on the RePro show on Sunday.

— Arena Puebla on Monday has a three-way tag match with heel teams with Soberano Jr.. & Barbaro Cavernario vs Averno & Euforia vs. Difunto & Zandokan Jr. What’s notable is the CMLL rules (never said in public) is that fathers can’t fight sons, so Soberano Jr and Euforia have to avoid each other. Volador Jr,. has a lighting match with Neon on the show.

— The Leyenda de Plata tournament has the elimination match on 7/24 and the finals on 7/31, the Friday before Grand Slam Mexico. So that 7/31 to 8/9 period is going to be gigantic because I expect AEW talent at many of the shows that week.

— Takayamania takes place 9/7 at Korakuen Hall. The main event will be Minoru Suzuki & El Desperado vs. Harashima & Naomichi Marufuji.

— Dan Higgins’s book “Lords of the Ring: The World According to Wrestling” has just been released. The book is how wrestling intersects wth social, cultural and political interests.

— Tommy Dreamer will be on the CIW show on 8/16 in Toledo, OH.

— The NWA is looking at a second TV show called NWA Into the Fire on COMET. This will be a reality show modeled after Tough Enough or Ultimate Fighter, with people competing to get NWA contracts.

— I don’t expect to get ratings for Dynamite until Monday. They may come out, but most of the networks were closed for business today and I’m not sure if Nielsen is or not. The Thursday number for Collision and TNA probably won’t be out until Tuesday or Wednesday as the week will be delayed by a day or two next week due to the h9liday.

— I really liked this article by Syed Farzam of Voices of Wrestling on being a free agent in Japan. Very intersting analysis and depth to it.

— Trey Miguel said that he has been cleared after suffering a broken kneecap in April. He said he was cleared on 7/1, just missing the Slammiversary PPV show.

— A fight with Reiner de Ridder vs Roman Dolidze is being worked on for the 8/22 show in Sacramento according to Leo Giumares.

— Mateusz Gamrot vs. Quillan Salkiilld will be the main event of the 8/8 UFC Fight Night show at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.

— John Layfield will be a guest at the Frederick MD, Keys baseball game for Wrestling Night, on 8/29 at Harry Grove Stadium.

— Pro Wrestling Revolucion noted that its 7/18 show in San Jose, CA at Mt. Pleasant High school featuring Ultimo Guerrero is almost sold out.

— Steve O aka Steve Olsonoski, a former AWA and Georgia star, turned 73 today. Kenneth Rinehurst, better known as Jack Victory, turned 62 today. Joe Dorgon aka Johnny Swinger turned 51. Joey Janela turned 37 today. Shinya Hashimoto was born on this day in 1965. Billy Garrett, a member of Dr. Ken Ramey’s Masked Medics and Masked Interns, a major tag team of the late 60s and early 70s, passed away 24 years ago today at the age of 64. Perro Aguayo Sr., one of the most charismatic live wrestlers that I have ever seen, a Hall of Famer and one of the ten biggest stars in the history of pro wrestling in Mexico, passed away seven years ago today at the age of 73 (thanks to Tony Richards)
