Callum Newman injury update after NJPW Dominion | Exclusive
An update is available on Callum Newman.
Newman dropped the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Yota Tsuji at NJPW Dominion on Sunday in Osaka. He appeared to injure his shoulder during the bout on a belly-to-belly suplex.
Our own Bryan Alvarez provided an update on the situation. Alvarez wrote to his subscribers on X that Newman dislocated his shoulder and will likely be getting an MRI today to determine the severity.
Alvarez wrote:
“Callum Newman injured his shoulder, likely on a belly-to-belly into the corner. They popped it back in but it’s believed to be a dislocation, and he’ll be getting an MRI probably today to determine the severity.”
Newman is also scheduled to wrestle in the G1 Climax, which begins on July 11.
The 23-year-old became the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion in history by defeating Tsuji for the belt at Sakura Genesis on April 4. Later that month, he revealed in an interview that he’d signed a long-term contract with NJPW.
“I’m signed here. I live here now and I’ve got a long term contract. I’ve never spoken to Tony Khan. The only people I know there are Will[Ospreay] and Andrade[El Idolo],” Newman said.
