Callum Newman provides injury update ahead of NJPW G1 Climax
Callum Newman has provided an injury update.
Newman dislocated his shoulder during his match against Yota Tsuji at NJPW Dominion on June 15 in Osaka.
He posted to Instagram Stories on Thursday, writing that he still plans on winning the G1, which is set to kick off on Saturday, July 11, at NOW Arena just outside of Chicago.
Newman wrote:
“Dislocated shoulder
Bone bruise
Rear delt and tricep damaged
Still gonna win the g1 😘❤️👑”
It is believed that Newman was injured on a belly-to-belly suplex into the corner during his match with Tsuji. He continued the bout afterward.
The 23-year-old Newman became the youngest IWGP World Heavyweight Champion in history at Sakura Genesis on April 4, when he defeated Tsuji for the title. He defended it once successfully against Shingo Takagi at Wrestling Dontaku.
Newman revealed in January that he had signed a long-term deal with NJPW.
