Callum Newman gives update on G1 status after NJPW Dominion injury

Callum Newman vs. Yota Tsuji NJPW Dominion 2026

Callum Newman is determined to compete in the G1 despite the injury he suffered at NJPW Dominion.

The youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion in history, Newman dropped the title to Yota Tsuji on June 14 and is believed to have dislocated his shoulder in the process. Newman was scheduled for an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. There’s been no official word on those results, but Newman tweeted on Monday night that his shoulder is “f***ed.”

In another tweet this morning, Newman vowed to still participate in the G1 even if he has to do so with one arm.

“I’ve got a point to prove,” he wrote. “I’ll do the G1 Climax with one arm if I have to.”

NJPW has not addressed Newman’s injury status. He is scheduled to be one of the B Block participants in the G1, which begins on July 11 and runs through August 16. Winning the tournament would provide the 23-year-old Newman a path back to IWGP title contention.
