NJPW Dominion Tsuji vs Newman

Five title changes took place at New Japan Pro Wrestling Dominion 2026 in Osaka-Jo Hall on Sunday.

The only wrestler on the show to successfully defend his title was Konosuke Takeshita, who retained his NJPW World Television title against SANADA in the opener.

Konosuke Takeshita retains NJPW World TV Championship

Using Cagematch.net as a source for these statistics, Takeshita is now at five successful title defenses. That moves his reign to one away from El Phantasmo for the second-most defenses in a single reign at six. Zack Sabre Jr. holds the all-time record with 16 title defenses in his inaugural run with the title from Wrestle Kingdom 17 to Wrestle Kingdom 18.

Takeshita is also third all-time in combined defenses behind ZSJ at 16 and El Phantasmo at 10 split across two reigns.

Aaron Wolf wins NEVER Openweight Championship

Aaron Wolf became a two-time NEVER Openweight Champion at Dominion, defeating Ren Narita for the title to begin his second reign. His first began at Wrestle Kingdom 20 and lasted until his first title defense against Narita at The New Beginning in Osaka. Wolf is now the 52nd champion in the title’s lineage and becomes the 10th wrestler to win the championship multiple times.

The United Empire win the IWGP Tag Team Championships

Great-O-Khan and HENARE defeated the Knockout Brothers to win the IWGP Tag Team Championships on the show. They are now the 112th champions in the title’s lineage. It’s the second time this combination of United Empire members have won the title. The first took place at Power Struggle on November 4, 2024. However, the belts were vacated the following month after HENARE was not medically cleared.

The Knockout Brothers’ reign as champions began at Destruction in Kobe on September 28, 2025, and included six successful title defenses, which is the most in a single reign since the Guerrillas of Destiny, Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa, defended them seven times from February 2019 to January 2020. The record for a single reign is 10 title defenses, set by Giant Bernard (Matt Bloom) and Karl Anderson.

The Knockout Brothers also sit one title defense below The Good Brothers (7) for fifth all time in combined defenses. Masahiro Chono and Hiroyoshi Tenzan hold the record at 12.

Shota Umino wins IWGP Global Championship

The IWGP Global Championship also changed hands at Dominion, with Shota Umino becoming the eighth champion in the title’s lineage, which dates back to Wrestle Kingdom 18.

Andrade El Idolo’s reign with the title ends with zero successful title defenses after he won the belt at Wrestling Dontaku on May 3, 2026.

The belt’s lineage only dates back two and a half years, with Yota Tsuji holding the record for combined defenses at seven across two reigns. He is followed by David Finley with four across two reigns, Gabe Kidd with two defenses in his single reign, and Nic Nemeth with one in his single reign.

YOH wins the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship

YOH is the 100th champion in the lineage of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, which dates back to early 1986.

The win ends DOUKI’s second reign with the title, during which he successfully defended the belt three times. He sits 13th all-time in total defenses of the belt, with Jushin Liger the clear leader in all statistics relating to the title. Liger had 31 combined defenses across 11 reigns and spent 2,245 days as champion.

DOUKI is one win away from tying KUSHIDA, Kota Ibushi, and Ultimo Dragon at eight combined defenses.

For YOH, this is his first singles championship in New Japan Pro Wrestling. It follows his recent Best of the Super Juniors win, which was his first singles tournament victory in NJPW.

Yota Tsuji wins IWGP Heavyweight Championship

Also at Dominion, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship changed hands with Yota Tsuji becoming the 89th champion in the title’s lineage. The lineage briefly branched out in recent years but has since returned.

Newman’s reign with the title began at Sakura Genesis on April 4 and included one successful title defense, which was against Shingo Takagi at Wrestling Dontaku on May 4.

With the win, Tsuji becomes the 19th wrestler to hold the title on more than one occasion.

The main statistics in the title’s lineage are dominated by Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi. Okada holds the record with 36 successful defenses across seven reigns. Tanahashi had 28 combined defenses of the title across eight reigns.
