New champions crowned at NJPW Dominion

Five titles changed hands at Dominion.

Yota Tsuji recaptured the IWGP Heavyweight title at Dominion, defeating Callum Newman to win the title for a second time after hitting another Gene Blast. Newman had held the title since Sakura Genesis, when he defeated Tsuji to shockingly become the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion of all time.

After the match, Tsuji cut a promo saying something amazing has come out of Newman and is ready to face him again. He said he believes in every single fan and is ready to lead them and represent them.

Four other titles change hands

YOH, who won the Best of the Super Juniors tournament last month, defeated DOUKI to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title for the first time. In a match that featured the usual House of Torture interference, YOH overcame all of it and pinned DOUKI with the Direct Drive to win the match and become the 100th champion.

Former tag team partner SHO, however, ran in after the match. Soon Kosei Fujita, Master Wato, and Francesco Akira all ran in to stake their own claim. YOH recovered and suggested the four meet in a fatal four-way match to determine his first challenger.

The IWGP Global title changed hands when Shota Umino defeated Andrade el Idolo with the second chapter. Drilla Moloney, who was also in the three-way match, ran in for the save but couldn’t make it in time. It had been pushed that Umino had never won a title in NJPW heading into Sunday’s three-way match.

After the match, Gabe Kidd made his return to NJPW, attacking Umino and establishing what he wanted next.

Aaron Wolf was the first to win gold on Sunday, defeating Ren Narita to win back the NEVER title following a reverse angle slam and a powerslam. After Wolf defeated EVIL to win the title on January 4, Narita quickly won the title the following month thanks to House of Torture interference.

Henare and Great-O-Khan won the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team titles after an assisted liger bomb by Henare on Yuto-Ice. After the match, O-Khan grabbed a chair to go after Ice but Oskar ran in for the save, covering his partner. O-Khan proceeded to pummel OSKAR with the chair, then sat on it on top of the fallen Knock Out Brothers.

With their win, O-Khan and Henare have now been entered into this year’s G1 Climax tournament, though it is not clear which block they will be on.
