NXT’s Mercedes Martinez evaluated at hospital following Tuesday match

Following a Xia Li roundhouse kick on Tuesday’s NXT, Mercedes Martinez was taken to the hospital for evaluation after the kick appeared to knock her out.

Mercedes and Jake Atlas were taking on Li and Boa in a tag team match. After taking a Li suplex, Martinez stood up and took the kick that connected flush with her jaw and ear. Martinez immediately dropped face-first and when Li went for the cover, Martinez’s shoulders were up off the mat and her right arm came up slowly and awkwardly to avoid the pin — reminiscent of when MMA fighters take similar damage.

Li then stood up and backed away as the referee checked Martinez off camera, calling the match off seconds later. Martinez’s mouth was also bloodied.

Fightful first reported that the 40-year-old was checked out backstage and that both talent and staff were told she was going to be evaluated at a hospital. As of Wednesday morning, there is no update as to her condition.
