Nic Nemeth addresses ‘confusing’ advertising of Jeff Hardy TNA World title match
TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth admits that the advertising of his upcoming World title defense against Jeff Hardy was confusing.
The Nemeth vs. Hardy match did take place on Thursday night, but it did not air on this week’s live episode of TNA Impact in Philadelphia. Instead, it was taped for the August 13 episode of the show. While Nemeth vs. Hardy was not listed on the preview for the July 30 episode, a large portion of viewers expected the bout to happen. TNA’s advertising of the match pushed that it was taking place on Thursday but did not fully clarify that only the live crowd would see it then.
In a tweet today, Nemeth addressed the situation and — as World Champion — took the blame for not helping fans understand the schedule.
“The wording WAS confusing on the adverts, for a large part of the audience,” he wrote. “We knew the schedule for weeks & as champ, I take responsibility for not conveying this clearer. Also; INCREDIBLE main event last night (& for weeks to come) + PHILLY AGAIN TONIGHT!”
Thursday’s Impact episode was headlined by Jason Hotch defeating Mustafa Ali for the TNA International Championship. On the show, it was announced that Nemeth and his brother Ryan will challenge The Hardys for the TNA Tag Team titles at Lockdown in Chicago on August 23. Matt Hardy vs. Ryan Nemeth will happen on Impact next week before the Nic Nemeth vs. Jeff Hardy World title match airs on the August 13 show.
No LeBron James at TNA Impact —
One aspect that likely added to the confusion was that, to get publicity for this week’s tapings, TNA invited NBA superstar and new Philadelphia 76er LeBron James to attend Thursday’s show and be the official title holder for the Nemeth vs. Hardy match. James did not appear, and it’s likely that TNA never actually expected that he would, but the public invite further established the connection that the title bout was set for Thursday.
TNA was at the Liacouras Center in Philly for Thursday’s show and will be back there tonight for another TV taping.
