Dana White reveals how long Conor McGregor is out for
Conor McGregor badly damaged his knee against Max Holloway back at UFC 329, with a tear in his ACL and a tear in his meniscus on the right knee. It now appears as though it’s going to be a minimum of 12 months until ‘Notorious’ gets back in the octagon.
Speaking to the press aftrer Sunday’s Zuffa Boxing event (which featured Edgar Berlanga vs. Steven Butler) White would confirm the latest on the fighter (via the Irish Star): “We had him [McGregor] on FaceTime tonight ringside. But you know, Conor McGregor’s out for a year.”
Conor McGregor reveals extent of knee injury
McGregor also confirmed in a since-deleted tweet how the injury affected him in the short fight against Holloway, writing: “The left leg is my back leg in fighting stance. When you strike you move onto your lead leg so the effect was less. I was able to strike sufficiently and enter to a takedown. This current one was my lead leg. The right leg. Every movement was affected.”
There is currently no indication who McGregor could be facing when he returns to MMA next year, but he does have one more fight on his UFC contract to fulfil. McGregor has indicated that he wants to fight one more time in the octagon, and there is probably going to be some lucrative boxing opportunities beyond that for the former two-division Irish champion.
