Islam Makhachev could break Anderson Silva record that has been in place since 2012

UFC 330 Main Event Poster

Islam Makhachev is set to defend his Welterweight title at UFC 330 in August, and if he is able to beat Irishman Ian Garry, then he will be etched into the record books.

Right now, Makhachev is level with Anderson Silva when it comes to the longest win streak in UFC history, at 16 wins. Getting to an unbeaten 17-win streak would put him above the ‘Spider’ and likely give him a record that won’t be broken for quite some time.

Longest win streak in UFC history

Makhachev’s last loss in the octagon occurred back in 2015 at UFC 192: Cormier vs Gustafsson, where he was beaten by Adriano Martins via KO/TKO at 1:46 of Round 1. Since then, he has gone on to amass a strong record of wins, including over the likes of Dustin Poirier, Alexander Volkanovski, Charles Oliveira and Jack Della Maddalena.

It is debatable whether Islam’s record is as impressive as Silva’s, when you consider the calibre of fighter he was put up against (Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, Forrest Griffin, Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin et al), but still, managing to put together 16-wins in the octagon so far is a massive achievement.

For reference, here are the current longest win streaks in UFC history:
