Dominik Mysterio confirms injury was legitimate: ‘Everyone thought I was faking it’

Dominik Mysterio says everyone thought he was faking his recent rib injury.
WWE announced on Raw in late June that Mysterio was injured and not cleared for an Intercontinental title defense against AJ Styles at Night of Champions.
He was out of action from June 9 to WWE’s house shows in Mexico on July 26 and 27 with a rib injury. During a recent appearance on The Club 520 podcast, Mysterio confirmed the injury was legitimate.
“I dislocated my two lower ribs and they were digging into my cartilage. So that was why I was actually hurt. Everyone thought I was faking it, but I was actually hurt.”
Mysterio also told a story about he was injured in his first WWE match as a heel against Adam Copeland, which took place on the September 12, 2022 episode of WWE Raw.
“And then my first match as a bad guy, I wrestled Edge and I did a frog splash and I cracked my rib and it punctured a lung. And then I finished the match and then I just remember not being able to catch my breath and I told the doctor I was like, ‘No, no, I’m good.’ Went back to the locker room, ten minutes later, I was like, “I still can’t breathe.” I was like, “This ain’t right.” Sure enough, went to the hospital and they’re like, “Yeah, you got a pneumothorax. You can’t fly home.'”
Pneumothorax is the technical term for a collapsed lung.
Mysterio is set to challenge for the AAA Mega Championship this Saturday at Triplemania in a four-way match against Dragon Lee, El Grande Americano and champion El Hijo Del Vikingo.
Mysterio has now successfully defended the Intercontinental title four times, twice against Penta at two straight live events in Mexico, once against Octagon Jr. at Worlds Collide, and then against Styles at SummerSlam. He’s also 2-0 since SummerSlam, with back-to-back wins on episodes of Raw. He defeated Dragon Lee in a singles match at the August 4 Raw, and then last night he teamed with El Grande Americano in a win over Dragon Lee and AJ Styles.
