John Cena to star alongside Jackie Chan in ‘Project X’

John Cena has booked a role alongside Jackie Chan in one of his next film projects.

Chan and Cena are slated to star in the action-thriller “Project X,” which is a working title. Sylvester Stallone was originally scheduled for Cena’s role before having to be replaced.

Cena is playing a former Marine who Chan, a private security contractor from China, teams up with to stop attackers who are trying to steal oil from a Chinese refinery in the Middle East.

The film is being directed by Scott Waugh, written by Arash Amel, and Chan is one of the producers. Waugh previously directed “Need for Speed” in 2014 and “Act of Valor” in 2012.

Cena hasn’t appeared on WWE television since his matches against Triple H at the Greatest Royal Rumble and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34 in April. He has a role in the Transformers spinoff “Bumblebee,” which is set to be released this December.
