John Cena’s movie schedule won’t affect WWE SummerSlam plans

On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said John Cena’s upcoming filming schedule will not affect any plans for a SummerSlam return.

Cena vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been the discussed SummerSlam plan for some time, but the news last week of Cena’s filming commitment to new project “Argylle” raised some questions.

Meltzer said he was told the filming schedule, set to begin in Europe this August, isn’t expected to be a hurdle and whatever is going down at SummerSlam is still a go.

“Argylle,” which is based on a novel that will be published next year, will “follow the globe-trotting adventures of a super-spy named Argylle across the U.S., London and other exotic locations.” Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, and pop star Dua Lipa have been announced for the movie.

Cena recently said in interviews that he would definitely be returning to the ring and is excited to do so, though Cena said he didn’t know when his return would be happening. This would be his first action since his cinematic match against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at 2020’s WrestleMania.

SummerSlam is set for Saturday, August 21 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Reigns will next defend his Universal title against Edge at Money in the Bank this Sunday.
