Nick Aldis says he didn’t lobby for WWE SummerSlam match
After a span of almost three years, Nick Aldis wrestled his first match at WWE SummerSlam 2026.
On Night 1 of WWE SummerSlam 2026, Nick Aldis made his thunderous return to pro-wrestling with Oasis playing in the background. Despite his in-ring absence of almost three years, Aldis did not miss a beat and battled Gunther in an almost 12-minute match. Despite losing, Aldis gained the crowd’s respect.
In a recent edition of the SummerSlam vlog focused on Aldis’ return, released by WWE, the SmackDown GM was heard talking about his in-ring return. Ahead of his match, Aldis spoke to the crew about his comeback and how he did not lobby for the match but was always ready for it.
“I was more than happy to sort of dedicate myself to that position and to, you know, and to sort of serve the, you know, serve the people, I suppose, right? Or something to that effect,” Aldis said.
“But it doesn’t change the fact that like anyone who’s in this business wants to prove that they belong on the, you know, on the big stage. So it’s like, I didn’t ask for it, right? Like, I didn’t lobby for it. It’s like, but I’m ready for it, yeah,” he finished.
At the SummerSlam post-show, Triple H also opened up and addressed Aldis’ in-ring fate. Aldis’ last match dates back to ACW Bluegrass Con in 2023, where he faced off against Caleb Konley, Beastman, Facade, and Matthew Justice.

In the same WWE SummerSlam vlog, Aldis also opened up and detailed the preparation and conditioning he undertook for his WWE in-ring debut.
“I’m so exhausted. It’s like, everyone says this, and I know it too. It just is what it is. It’s like you can do, you can do whatever you want. And I’ve literally, I’ve been doing the hardest conditioning training I’ve ever done in my whole life to try to get ready for this. And I still just, I was, I felt like I was in quicksand the whole match. I was so tired.
“But you know, it was physical, and it was rough, and it was emotional, which is to me, like that’s what pro wrestling is to me. It’s, you know, it’s violent theater. You know, it’s Shakespeare with, Shakespeare with violence, with, you know. We rile them up, and then we break their hearts,” he finished.
