Oba Femi defeats Brock Lesnar in WWE SummerSlam Hell in a Cell match
In a short and relatively tame Hell in a Cell match by recent standards, Oba Femi was victorious in the main event of WWE SummerSlam Saturday in a win over Brock Lesnar.
The end came when Femi hit Fall From Grace to get the pin, ending the match that featured no blood.
After Femi defeated Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 in April, Lesnar evened the series at April’s Clash in Italy which set up this trilogy bout. It lasted just under 12 minutes — nearly the total time of their first two encounters combined.
As some expected, Lesnar didn’t tease retirement that heavily but let Femi have his moment in the ring before eventually returning, looking somewhat emotional. He took off his elbow pads, shook Femi’s hand, hugged him, and raised his hand. Lesnar then asked for a microphone and put Femi over, saying “Here’s the future of WWE” and while referring to himself as “the past” before departing.
Femi had to overcome Lesnar ripping up the mat, exposing the pine boards underneath. He then delivered a tombstone piledriver in homage to the Undertaker but Femi kicked out. Lesnar had earlier kicked out of a first Fall From Grace attempt, sitting up and laughing in another Undertaker homage.
It was Lesnar’s third-ever Hell in a Cell match, both previously against Undertaker. This was his first defeat.
