AAA star rumored for Roman Reigns WWE Raw match in Mexico City
El Grande Americano’s presence and star power certainly increased with his win earlier this year over Original El Grande Americano/Chad Gable in their mask vs. mask match of the year candidate for AAA.
Americano might be in line for another big opportunity as he is rumored to be the opponent for WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns at the upcoming Raw in Mexico City, according to our Bryan Alvarez on Wednesday’s Wrestling Observer Live.
The show will take place Monday, September 14 at Arena CDMX as part of a stretch that includes house show dates in Guadalajara and Monterrey; Mexico City hosting SmackDown on September 11 and night two of AAA Triplemania 34, also in Mexico City.
Alvarez stressed this news was unconfirmed and not locked in. Americano is set to challenge AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio at the second night of Triplemania 34. If it happens, it will be the first time they have squared off under any character.
On Wednesday, it was announced that WWE will hold a tournament to determine Reigns’ challenger for the title in Mexico City. The list of entrants and the total amount of wrestlers included has yet to be announced.
