Seth Rollins returns in WWE men’s Royal Rumble match

For the first time since November, Seth Rollins has returned to WWE programming

Rollins made his return at tonight’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. He was an entrant in the men’s Royal Rumble match, coming into the ring at number 29 and making it to the final three before being eliminated by Edge.

Edge won the men’s Royal Rumble after last eliminating Randy Orton. Orton was taken out in an injury angle early on in the match and then returned at the end. He blindsided Edge and tried to throw him out of the ring, but Edge reversed it and threw Orton out.

Tonight was Rollins’ first appearance on WWE TV since being temporarily written off by sacrificing himself in the Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown men’s Survivor Series elimination match. Rollins (real name Colby Lopez) and Becky Lynch Rebecca Quin) welcomed the birth of their daughter Roux in December.

WWE on Fox had advertised that Rollins would be returning to WWE television on the New Year’s Day edition of SmackDown, but WWE stopped promoting that prior to the episode and Rollins didn’t make his return until tonight. Rollins was a heel in the Rumble match and continued to use his Messiah character.
