Update on El Hijo del Vikingo’s injury, return timeline | Exclusive

El Hijo del Vikingo WWE

El Hijo del Vikingo is expected to be out of action for a significant amount of time after undergoing knee surgery.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Vikingo suffered a torn ACL and will be sidelined for approximately nine months. Meltzer also wrote about the situation in the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

  • Right now the expectation of El Hijo del Vikingo, who underwent surgery for a torn ACL on 7/7, is that he will be out of action for about nine months. Vikingo was Latin American champion and with the injury, the title is vacant.

Knee issues have been a frequent problem for Vikingo during his career, and he got injured again at the end of June while preparing to defend the AAA Latin American Championship against EK Prosper on WWE NXT. Vikingo was injured hours before the match and could not compete that night.

Prior to being forced out of action, Vikingo was featured on a WWE SmackDown episode in June, losing to Rey Fenix. In AAA, he was feuding with El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Mini Vikingo.

AAA Latin American Championship update —

The future of the now-vacant Latin American title will be addressed on this Saturday’s AAA TV episode. There was an angle last weekend where Dorian Roldan was going to make Omos the new champion, but AAA general manager Rey Mysterio stepped in and stopped that from happening.

Vikingo will not be able to wrestle at Triplemania (September 11 and 13) this year or the upcoming WWE & AAA Worlds Collide event that’s being held in Chicago on September 26. The estimated nine-month timeline would put Vikingo’s return in April 2027.
