Update on pitched WWE SummerSlam match and two potential returns
An update is available regarding two potential returns and one match related to SummerSlam.
On Thursday, WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that a match between Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair has been pitched internally for the event and, at one point, had been “penciled in” for the show.
The report noted that WWE creative has been waiting for the right time for a first-time Cargill vs. Flair match and that SummerSlam could be the ideal setting.
Also regarding SummerSlam, WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that an internal document that circulated within WWE earlier this month listed both Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre in connection with the event.
Neither Orton nor McIntyre have wrestled since WWE WrestleMania 42.
The report notes that sources indicate both Orton and McIntyre appear to be on track to return in time for SummerSlam, which is scheduled for 8/1 and 8/2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
While no matches have been confirmed for the show, the winners of the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournaments will receive world title matches at SummerSlam.
