World Heavyweight title match set for WWE SummerSlam
The Shield will clash again at SummerSlam.
Roman Reigns made his way to the ring to close off Monday’s show when his former stablemate Seth Rollins came out to confront him. The two exchanged words and by the end of the segment, it was clear: the two would meet at SummerSlam on August 1 & 2 in Minneapolis for the World Heavyweight title.
The long and winding road to SummerSlam
Rollins started by talking about the formation of the Shield fourteen years ago and declared that now, it was time to collect the World Heavyweight Championship. Reigns dismissed the idea, saying Rollins was at the back of the line.
Rollins disagreed, pointing out that he pinned Roman and took Paul Heyman from him at WrestleMania 41. The year before at WrestleMania 40, he sacrificed himself so Cody Rhodes emerged as the winner, and at WrestleMania 31, he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and took Reign’s title from him. He said he has owned Roman ever since he took him out with a steel chair and wasn’t there on Raw to take something from Reigns, he wanted to give something to him: the opportunity to beat him.
Reigns agreed with Rollins that he needed to beat him and needs his family to see it. He then officially accepted Seth’s challenge for SummerSlam.
Rollins was victorious at Night of Champions this past weekend, defeating Bron Breakker in a steel cage match.
