WWE gives storyline update following Gunther-Nick Aldis confrontation
An update following Night of Champions.
On Raw, footage was shown of the confrontation between Nick Aldis and Gunther after the latter lost his WWE Championship match at Night of Champions. Michael Cole announced as a result, both were sent home. Additionally, Aldis has been placed on administrative leave, meaning that moving forward Adam Pearce would oversee both the Raw and SmackDown brands as General Manager.
Following Night of Champions, Gunther angrily confronted Aldis, blaming the SmackDown GM for his loss and accused him of being jealous, labeling him a “failed wrestler.” Gunther poked Aldis, which led to a shoving match that was quickly broken up by security.
The two have had a tense relationship over Gunther’s recent struggles to win the WWE Championship, with Gunther relying on lawyers in order to get outcomes that benefited him. Gunther first lost at Clash in Italy despite his foot being on the rope. Aldis granted him a rematch with a stipulation of his choice, allowing Gunther to pick Sami Zayn as a special guest referee. But after those plans went awry thanks to Zayn’s actions, it was Cody Rhodes who ultimately suggested a three-way match for Night of Champions. Zayn ended up winning after rolling up Rhodes.
