WWE World Heavyweight title number one contender tournament update
The tournament to crown the number one contender to WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns kicked off Monday’s Raw — one that saw Penta advance.
The former WWE Intercontinental Champion defeated Laredo Kid in the night’s first match after hitting a Mexican destroyer after Kid missed a torneo from the top role. It was his WWE Raw debut.
Penta now advances to the semifinals to face the winner of Psycho Clown vs. La Parka that takes place on this Saturday’s episode of AAA.
Next Monday’s Raw will feature Dragon Lee against El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. while Rey Fenix faces El Fiscal to round out the first round matches. Lee, however, was taken out by Big Cass on Monday’s show after defeating Dominik Mysterio in an impromptu match, potentially setting up Mysterio as an injury replacement as he was complaining to Rey Mysterio earlier on Raw about not being in the tournament.
The eventual tournament winner will challenge Reigns for the gold on the Monday, September 14 Raw from Mexico City, Mexico.
