CM Punk joins MMA promotion as commentator

Former WWE star Phil “CM Punk” Brooks is returning to MMA this December, but not in the cage.

New Jersey based Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFCC) announced Thursday that Punk will be the color commentator for the company’s Friday December 14th debut show on UFC Fight Pass alongside play-by-play man Mike Gill.

From the company’s release:

“I can’t wait for this opportunity to call the CFFC fights on UFC Fight Pass,” CM Punk said. “CFFC has a long history of putting on exciting fights featuring some of the sport’s up-and-coming athletes. This card is going to be a lot of fun and I’m really excited to have the chance to be a part of it.”

Punk famously made his MMA debut in the UFC in September 2016 with a first round submission loss to Mickey Gall at UFC 203 and followed that up nearly two years later with a loss to Mike Jackson by decision at UFC 225. The 40-year-old has been non-commital about his in-cage future while being more firm on his decison not to return to pro wrestling.
