WWE releases statement supporting inclusion, racial justice
As part of a social media movement Tuesday in the wake of George Floyd’s death, WWE changed their avatar to a solid black color and released a statement on their various social media accounts offering condolences for Floyd’s family and affirming their support of both an inclusive society and racial justice:
“WWE supports an inclusive society and condemns racial injustice. We stand beside our Black performers, employees and fans around the world, and encourage everyone to use their voice to speak out against racism. We offer our sincere condolences to the family of George Floyd and the families of countless others who have lost their lives due to senseless violence.”
The 46-year-old Floyd was killed on May 25th in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after police officers pinned him down on the ground after he was arrested. One of the officers, Derek Chauvin, has been charged with murder and manslaughter after a video released showed his knee across the back of Floyd’s neck, rendering him unable to breathe.
