MJF reportedly ‘driving creative force’ behind big AEW Redemption match
Even though he hasn’t been announced for Sunday’s Redemption in any form, news has emerged about former AEW World Champion MJF’s role in a big match for the pay-per-view.
Fightful Select reported on Wednesday that MJF was the “driving creative force” behind the World title match between the man that beat him for the gold — Kenny Omega — and TNT Champion Kevin Knight.
While he specifically didn’t say Knight should be the one to challenge Omega, he was apparently heavily behind whoever the TNT Champion was challenging for the World title at Sunday’s show. The outlet noted MJF was also in favor of Knight joining the Don Callis Family, but has denied it.
Knight was owed a World title match in storyline after joining Team MJF for the 12-man cage match main event at Forbidden Door.
Our Dave Meltzer had previously reported that Omega vs. MJF for the title was set for Redemption, but that MJF had pushed for it to be bumped up to the Beach Break Dynamite instead for unknown reasons. Fightful noted MJF is taking some time off.
