AEW Blood & Guts match expected to return this summer

Blood & Guts — AEW’s version of a WarGames match — appears to be returning in just a few months.

AEW head Tony Khan revealed the news in an interview with ESPN Friday, saying to expect it to return this summer.

The original match was set for a March 2020 Dynamite as part of AEW’s Newark, New Jersey, debut, featuring The Elite vs. The Inner Circle. However that plan was scrapped due to the pandemic.

The match was then announced again for a May 2021 edition of Dynamite with The Inner Circle taking on The Pinnacle. MJF’s group picked up the win and Chris Jericho dislocated his elbow taking a fall off the cage he was criticized for.

However, when it comes to another AEW staple in Stadium Stampede, it appears that match will not be in the cards anytime soon.

Khan told ESPN that while he’s thought about it, running shows in the post-Daily’s Place pandemic era has changed his mindset on that specific match.

“It’s a very different wrestling world now than it was during the pandemic. I think it’s a great match, a signature match for us that people really enjoyed. But some of the reasons we presented that match were because of the challenges that existed in the world because of the pandemic, as far as presenting sporting events with live fans. That doesn’t really exist in this live-event pandemic,” he said.
