Finals set in AEW women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament
In the wake of recent family tragedy, the feel good story of Maya World continued on Saturday’s AEW Collision in the semifinals of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.
In an upset win, World defeated ROH Women’s World Champion Athena to advance to the finals against Mercedes Mone at next Sunday’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. The winner of that match advances to August’s All In and a shot at the AEW Women’s World title.
In the same week when she unexpectedly lost her brother, World was a last minute injury substitution for Sareee, defeating Skye Blue in the tournament quarterfinal.
World and Athena have wrestled several times before. In ROH, World took her to a draw this past March with Athena then defeating her in a title defense. It was Athena’s first singles loss since February 2026’s NJPW New Beginning USA against Syuri.
Mone is looking for her second shot at the Women’s World title. The first came at last July’s All In when she failed to defeat then-champion Toni Storm.
