Original plan for World title match at AEW Redemption
The upcoming AEW World title match between MJF and Kenny Omega wasn’t originally scheduled to take place on this Wednesday’s Beach Break edition of Dynamite.
On the post-Dynamite edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (clip found below), Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed what happened on the show with Meltzer noting the original plan was for the match to take place at this month’s Redemption pay-per-view in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
At the time of the recording, neither Meltzer or Alvarez understood the reason for the change with Alvarez saying the decision was made “fairly recently.” Meltzer was also unclear why the International title match between Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher is taking place this Wednesday instead of on a PPV.
The stipulation for the MJF/Omega match is that if Omega doesn’t defeat MJF for the title, he can never challenge for it again. MJF is 2-0 against Omega all-time and the consensus opinion is that Omega will win to set up Omega vs. Kyle Fletcher for the title as the main event of AEW All In from London’s Wembley Stadium.
