Result of NXT Championship match at Great American Bash

Tony D'Angelo vs. Naraku

Tony D’Angelo is still the NXT Champion.

The opening match of Great American Bash on Sunday saw D’Angelo retain the NXT Championship, defeating Naraku to retain the title. The match started hot early, with D’Angelo sending Naraku through a wall on the outside. They ended up having a back-and-forth match, with D’Angelo scoring the clean win after the dead to rights chokeslam.

The segment ended with D’Angelo standing stall, posing with the NXT Championship.

Evil comes to NXT

Naraku became the number one contender after defeating Mason Rook, who was distracted thanks to Kam Hendrix. Naraku at first presented himself in a friendly manner to his future opponent as the two signed their contract. However, Naraku said he would present the contract to D’Angelo signed on the following episode of NXT.

Last Tuesday’s show quickly revealed Naraku’s true intentions when a fireball shot out of the contract that the former EVIL handed to Tony D’Angelo, putting the NXT Champion’s status for Sunday in doubt. However, the end of the show saw D’Angelo arrive with one of his eyes bandaged, making it clear he was still set for the Great American Bash.
