‘Massive’ Netflix docuseries on WWE’s Vince McMahon still in the works

Podcaster and The Ringer founder Bill Simmons confirmed that the previously planned docuseries on WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon is still moving forward at Netflix.

During a Friday segment with Ariel Helwani, Simmons, who is an executive producer on the project, was talking about McMahon and said, “I’m working on this massive docuseries right now about him, which is, obviously, that keeps evolving…”

Simmons, an executive producer on the Andre The Giant documentary for HBO, didn’t talk further about the series which is being co-produced with WWE.

The release date and number of episodes is unknown.

First announced in October 2020 on an investors call, the series, once planned for four parts, has taken some twists and turns since that initial reveal. In December 2021, the series that WWE CEO Nick Khan once said was one of the most expensive in Netflix history was revealed to be debuting in 2022.

Then, in the fallout from last summer’s sexual misconduct scandal involving nearly $20 million in unreported expenses that included hush money being paid to women McMahon allegedly had relations with, the project was shelved last July.

Roughly a month later, our Dave Meltzer reported that the project was revived with director and executive producer Chris Smith remaining on board. It was unknown at that point if Simmons was still involved but Friday’s podcast comments confirmed he was.
