Monday Update

— Bryan and I will be back tonight talking Raw, Fantastica Mania, the AEW weekend upcoming and more with Wrestling Observer Radio tonight.
— I don’t have the placings or competition at this point, but Wednesday’s AEW show did 665,000 viewers (Panel + Big Data) with an 0.12 in 18-49 and 0.20 in 25-54. That indicates a giant 50-54 number. This isn’t the panel number which of late has been about 150,000 or so viewers higher.
— Even though this week’s Dynamite has eight matches, and a number of good ones, it is scheduled for two hours plus an overrun. It will be a match heavy show this week, as it was compared to some of the recent Collision shows where they’ve had eight matches in two hours and this show has an overrun. This past Saturday’s Collision had seven matches but two of them were very short and this has no obvious sub three minute bouts.
The card is:
- AEW International Title: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Ricochet
- Will Ospreay vs. EL Phantasmo
- Swerve Strickland vs. Daniel Garcia
- Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta vs. Mistico & Bandido & Brody King
- Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Jack Perry
- Young Bucks vs. Bad Dude Tito & Mikey Nicholls
- Survival of the Fittest Qualifier: Harley Cameron vs. Marina Shafir
- Survival of the Fittest Qualifier: Queen Aminata vs. Red Velvet
— The key stuff on today’s Raw from London was:
- Lyra Valkyria turned on Bayley after they had lost a tag title match to Paige & Brie Bella.
- Chad Gable apologized to Alpha Academy.
- Liv Morgan and Iyo Sky cut a promo together for their match on Saturday so she appears to be at least good enough to wrestle as they promoted the match hard.
- The Street Profits won the tag team titles from Bron Breakker & Austin Theory.
— Pierroth Jr., who is not the former AAA star but a newer wrestler (former Kaoz) using the name, was wrestling last night at Arena Neza and was running to do a tope when he just collapsed in the ring. It was very scary. His wife updated today and said he collapsed from exhaustion and did not suffer a heart attack as was feared. She said after all the testing, the heart specialists ruled out any heart issues. She said he is in stable condition.
— The UFC in the Kajan Johnson case has submitted declarations from managers Malki Kawa, Jason House and Dan Lambert who all stated that Dana White has not been in contact or in any pay negotiations with any fighter they have worked with since 2018. (thanks to John Nash)
— Mick Foley won’t be in San Jose for Forbidden Door as he had a contractual date for a comedy show in Seabrook, NH, that he did attempt to get changed, but was unable to do so. He has cleared his schedule after San Jose so that he should be available for both Dynamite or PPV shows when needed through September as well as in November and December. Foley noted to us that in 2025 he was busier and on the road more than any time in his life as a pro wrestler and had booked 2026 pretty solid as well before signing.
— Just a note regarding last night’s show, at Wembley Stadium Thekla vs. Toni Storm was not the original plan although both were scheduled for major matches on that show.
— Dustin Poirier was booked last night for misdemeanor public drunkenness in Georgia at 6:30 p.m. He was released at 10 p.m. according to TMZ.
— Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship announced an 8/29 show at Fenway Park in Boston. This will be the first Bare Knuckle show in the state of Massachusetts.
— CMLL tonight in Puebla is sold out with Mistico & Mascara Dorada vs. Sanada & Dick Togo, El Phantasmo & Xelhua vs. Templario & Okumura and Soberano Jr. & Barbaro Cavernario & Black Tiger vs. Robbie X & Taiji Ishimori & Titan.
— The Friday night match with Ishimori & Robbie X & Titan vs. Dorada & Neon & Templario was awesome. Perhaps five minutes too short to be a match of the year contender, but still an outstanding match.
— Arena Mexico tomorrow night is Volador Jr. & Dorada vs. Phantasmo & Black Tiger, Neon & Capitan Suicida vs. Ishimori & Robbie X and Esfinge & Zandokan Jr. vs. Dick Togo & Sanada.
— Dungeon Wrestling from Friday night at the Pavilion in Calgary before 300 fans:
- Gigi Ray b Rylie Rose
- Harlon Abbott b Isaac Holunga
- Ava Lawless b Bridgette Hearst
- Mo Jabari b Michael Allen Richard Clarke
- Tommy Billington b Shawn Murphy
- Chris Knight b Mike Santana via DQ to retain the Stu Hart Heritage title (thanks to Ross Hart)
